I am happy to report that I have been painting a lot more. Well, I have been digital painting a lot more. I still feel strange calling that painting because I am not using actual paint (I know, I have issues) but I have doing some really nice and interesting things. I really like experimenting with light and color and shapes in ways that most people cannot (or are not prepared to) relate with. I’m not a photo-realistic artist. I am more of an abstract expressionist (if you had to put me in a category)…I think. Sometimes, my work looks more impressionist like. I work from a very internal, surreal, subconscious space. Almost dream-like… here is one piece I finished the other night:
Touching, 2012 Digital Painting KBrown
I’ve also been editing some photos I took while still in Japan. I feel a little odd posting them after such a longtime. I think the distant between what I was going through at the time and now is helping me cope with not doing all I wanted to there. I tried not to take such “touristy” photos. There are more photos I want to go through, but here is one I am particularly proud of. I did do some “digital” enhancing via photo filters, but not too much.
I like taking photos. I wouldn’t call myself a photographer. If I did, I would be pretty amateur. But this current trend toward old school Lomo/Holga/Insta film look and feel is something I can no longer ignore. It is almost like a backlash to the super realistic 3D digital cameras or something. So, I’ve been testing my creativity using some photos I took this weekend and using lighting/color/camera effect filters in a photo editing program.
I’m pretty happy with the results. Here is just one of my creations:
Easter is right around the corner and I feel the need to do a fun Easter project. It will be a photo project…using..Peeps. Peeps come in so many colors…oh it will be awesome. I’m in the process of getting my ticket to Japan. I can’t wait to get there. I know it will be hard, but I am looking forward to the challenge.
Since my last post, I have been very fatigued and not feeling very well…thus I have not done anymore ATC’s nor have I finished my Valentine’s project. I feel unaccomplished because of this but what can I do. Starting March 1st I will stop producing art as I need to back up my studio.
On April 19th, I will be flying to Japan. I will be living there for at least a year. In my heart, I want to stay longer. I did do a couple of Valentine’s Day photos.
O’k I have decided to some items with a Valentine’s theme. I found some great stuff while straightening out my work area.
I also found some Chiyogami paper. Hmmm…yeah, I will use these for the collages too.
I also want to do something for “The Year of the Rat.” I heard the Year of the Rat was going to be lucky for Rabbits..so whoohoo!
Tomorrow I may make a trip to the supply store. I want to make some hairclips and I need some hard cardboard for some pins I want to do. I have all this fabric that I am not doing anything with. Yeah, I have a lot of ideas. I have all this tissue paper for my chigirie art that I have yet to do…so much, so much, so much..
My art related New Years resolutions are to put myself and my work out there more. I also promise to have more confidence in my abilities and stop selling myself short. I promise to produce more and to take more chances in my work. I always play it safe.
Soooo, this is one of the items I got for Christmas:
I really needed a chair level with my work table in my studio! It swivels too! I should be able to do a lot more pieces in there. Lately, I have been totally hooked on doing computer graphics. I need to get back to something more organic (for lack of a better word).
This is a painting I started YEARS ago…never finished it…hmmm perhaps I will go the 7-11 and get a can of Minute Maid Lemonade so I can finish this one. It is watercolor on Bristol board.
In case you haven’t gone, go look at my flash page with all the Twelve Days of Christmas display..you have to click on the tree ornaments to see the illustrations.
